I attended the 20th Anniversary Resident Evil Panel at SDCC last week. It was a nostalgic feeling going back to the classics! This panel included RE Producer Masachika Kawata, whom I had the pleasure of meeting.
The Resident Evil team over at CAPCOM decided to re release RE titles remastered for PS4/ and Xbox one consoles. The panel “returned to the beginning” while also featuring limited teaser footage and answering some questions about the upcoming title Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (developed by ©CAPCOM); is an upcoming survival horror video game slated for release on Microsoft Windows, PS4/ with full Playstation VR support and Xbox one on January 24, 2017. RE7 will be the eleventh entry in the main RE series and the first installment to be played from 1st person.
Resident Evil Celebrates 20 Years

“20 years ago on March 22, 1996, Resident Evil burst onto the gaming scene. Since then the series has gone on to become one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time selling over 66 million copies worldwide.”
-Capcom, Resident Evil Team
Capcom’s Kitchen Gameplay Teaser premiered at last years E3 2015. Some have called this VR prequel demo “the most disturbing gaming experience.” After E3 the producers said according to people’s reactions that the demo was very successful.
Here is a clip from the RE7 Gameplay Demo at this years E3 2016 Sony Press Conference.
I also attended the Capcom booth to meet with RE producer Masachika Kawata, who signed a poster for me as well as a re-release ps4 copy of RE5 I picked up.
The panel briefly touched upon some of the questions that fans have such as:
- Who am I playing as and what’s the basics of the story?
- Why the 1st person perspective? Why not 3rd person?
- Will there be combat, puzzles and other elements from previous RE games or will it be an entirely new direction?
Unlike previous RE titles they are trying not to disclose too much information. They want to leave an element of surprise. Overall this title is under tight wraps so that fans can jump in and won’t know what to expect. The main objective of this next installment is horror and fear. They decided to go with a direct approach that would be up close and personal, in your face. When you’re playing it’s from your perspective, so they went with the first person approach.
The producers assure us that RE7 will have horror, combat, and games; and that fans of the first game will enjoy title.
