NOSFERATU | Press Day with Cinematographer Jarin Blaschke (The Lighthouse, The Northman, Nosferatu)

Had the opportunity of speaking with Cinematographer Jarin Blaschke about filmmaking, horror films, blocking scenes, making Nosferatu and working with Robert Eggers, and his film inspirations ‘GodFather 2,’ and Tarkovsky’s ‘Mirror.

He is a cinematographer and actor, known for The Lighthouse (2019), The Northman (2022) and Nosferatu (2024).

Jarin Blaschke is an American cinematographer, best known for his work with director Robert Eggers. For his work on Eggers’ horror films The Lighthouse (2019) and Nosferatu (2024), he earned nominations for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

Blaschke first rose to prominence with his work on Robert Eggers‘ directorial debut The Witch. His work received acclaim, in addition to several film critic association nominations, including the Seattle Film Critics Society Award for Best Cinematography. He would reteam with Eggers for The Lighthouse, which was filmed in black and white negative. In addition to his Academy Award nomination, Blaschke won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Cinematography, and was nominated for the BAFTA and Critics’ Choice Award.

Synopsis: In the 1830s, estate agent Thomas Hutter travels to Transylvania for a fateful meeting with Count Orlok, a prospective client. In his absence, Hutter’s new bride, Ellen, is left under the care of their friends, Friedrich and Anna Harding. Plagued by horrific visions and an increasing sense of dread, Ellen soon encounters an evil force that’s far beyond her control.
