IDW Publishing’s ‘Invisible Men The Trailblazing Black Artists of Comic Books
Joined by comic book historian and author Ken Quattro to discuss what inspired his non-fiction title, his research process and the importance of sharing these riveting stories. (WATCH INTERVIEW ABOVE)
Ken is the author of hundreds of books, magazines and articles, and his involvement in comic book history also led to him being a historical consultant on the 2017 Hollywood film “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women.” He has also provided source material for television and many other comic histories. Invisible Men tells the story of over a dozen black artists and their struggles and triumphs in the early years of the industry in a world that was predominately only occupied by whites.
He talks about segregation, the Harlem Renaissance, the Great Depression and other major events. The book also contains beautifully illustrated examples of each artists work, along with their many contributions. With over 20 years of research and writing Ken discusses his newly released book in our interview above just in time for Black History Month.
