Shazam (WB)

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s case, by shouting out one word – SHAZAM! – this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero Shazam

The second trailer for Shazam! is reportedly arriving this month. Directed by David F. Sandberg, the next DCEU film will debut Zachary Levi as the titular character alongside Asher Angel playing his human alter-ego, young Billy Batson. The dual-personality hero will take on Doctor Sivana, who will be brought to life by Mark Strong. Not much is known regarding plot specifics for the flick, as Warner Bros. is keeping details tightly under wraps. –ScreenRant

Whenever he utters the word SHAZAM he is struck by a magical bolt and calls upon the heroes and gods of various mythologies, (gaining the power and abilities of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury) transforming into Captain Marvel.courtesy of comic vine

Captain Marvel is often mistakenly referred to by his mentor, the wizard Shazam’s, name. The confusion comes from legal issues surrounding Captain Marvel’s publication/trademark history.”

It’s not like we expected Marvel or Disney to slip up and reveal Avengers 4 secrets ahead of their time, but Feige confirmed that marketing videos will be limited to the first few minutes of the film.

Here’s a list of what to look forward to in 2020!!

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)(WB)

Release Date: February 7, 2020

Status: Pre-production

After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord.

Robbie starred as Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad, and the spinoff is described as a film in which she assembles a girl gang of friends to take on a bad guy. Ewan McGregor is playing the Batman villain Black Mask in the film, and Robbie’s other co-stars include Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as  Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain. Cathy Yan is directing the ensemble.

Although it wasn’t titled as such, the comic book emancipation of Harley Quinn was a fan-favorite element of DC’s popular Harley Quinn series in 2016; in the 25th issue of the series, Harley finally ended her relationship with the Joker for good when she confronts him after years apart. “I hate ya for what ya bring out in me,” she tells him as the two fight. “I’m not yet toy anymore. Unnerstand? You did mean somethin’ ta me one time, but that time is over.” The development came after the series established that the romance between the two was abusive, and removing the Joker from Harley’s life was a long overdue moment. It certainly didn’t hurt her, as the character continued to grow in popularity after that point.- Hollywood Reporter

For those not familiar with the super heroine team Birds of Prey:

Some jobs need the talents of a specialized team—a team comprised of fierce heroines ready to leap into dangerous situations and act with decisive authority and skill. Luckily, such a group exists: the Birds of Prey are ready and waiting for the next job.

DC Comics

Operating out of the Clock Tower, a maximum-security location in Gotham equipped with the high-tech Oracle mainframe, the Birds of Prey are a covert ops and crimefighting team. Since criminals often escape domestic justice by hopping borders, the team led by Oracle (Barbara Gordon), Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance) and the Huntress (Helena Bertinelli) operates internationally. Their combined skills—computer talents, martial arts and hand-to-hand combat—make them a balanced and effective group.- DC COMICS

*so far Birds of Prey stars: Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Ewan McGregor (Black Mask), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Chris Messina (Victor Zsasz), Derek Wilson (Tim Evans), Matthew Willig (Happy), Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya), Ella Jay Basco (Cassandra Cain)

Gambit (FOX)

Release Date: March 13, 2020

Status: Pre-production

Plot is unknown. Lost count of the release date changes.

The Gambit movie has been in the works for a long, long time, but it sounds like the film has changed significantly during that development process. While Fox has been toying with the idea of making a Gambit movie for years, it really came into focus in 2014, when Channing Tatum was announced as the star and producer of the movie. Since that time, however, the film has gone through a number of directors and iterations.- Collider
In September 2018, Kinberg told IGN that the movie was now going to be more of a “romantic comedy” because the character is a “hustler and a womaniser”.

Full steam ahead, right? Not quite. The movie then got another release date change (we’ve stopped counting) to March 13, 2020 as Fox shifted their calendar around.

With it came confirmation that it was somehow still in development and Tatum was still on board, but there’s no director attached. Reid Carolin and Joshua Zetumer are working on the script, which Kinberg revealed still had “elements of a heist movie”.

“It has elements of a romantic comedy and elements of a heist movie because he is a thief, but it is a love story between him and Bella,” he told Collider.

And remember, we never thought Deadpool would happen either. It took more than ten years, but is now officially the most successful X-Men movie ever. If Fox hits on the right formula, Gambit could become another success. If it ever comes out… – Digital Spy

Reid Carolin (screenplay), Chris Claremont (character)

*so far Gambit casting includes: Channing Tatum (Remy LeBeau/ Gambit), Rumored Lizzy Caplan

Wonder Woman 1984 (WB)

*Release Date: June 5, 2020

(Pushed back from original release Nov. 2019)

*Status: Post-production

Plot unknown. A sequel to the 2017 super hero film ‘Wonder Woman’.

Wonder Woman 1984 isn’t out for a while yet, but here’s everything we know about the sequel so far

Still, at least DC is being pretty transparent on the story details. We know that Wonder Woman 2 takes place in the 1984 timeline of the title, making it a chronological sequel by about 70 years, and that Kristen Wiig will be taking over from David Thewlis’ Ares as new villain Cheetah. It’s even been revealed that Chris Pine is somehow coming back as love interest Steve Trevor, despite dying in the first movie.- Games Radar

*WW 1984 stars: Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Robin Wright (Antiope), Connie Nielsen (Hippolyta), Pedro Pascal, Kristen Wiig (Barbara Minerva/ Cheetah), rumored Lynda Carter
